What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?

BMI or Body Mass Index is a way of representing the total body fat of the body making use of the weight, height, age and sex of the individual. It is the numeric result of the BMI that is used in classifying human weight status into;
  •  Underweight
  •  healthy weight
  • overweight
  •  obese

HOW DO I CALCULATE MY BMI?

To calculate your BMI you can use  A FREE BMI CALCULATOR , BMI CHART  or measure your weight (in kilograms) divide it by the square of your height( in metres)

BMI = weight  / height2

 The result is used in determining whether an individual is clinically defined as obese, though not a direct measurement of body fat.

  • For all adults over age 20, BMI numbers correlate to the same weight status designations.
  • For example, a BMI for adult women and men between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered healthy.
  •  A BMI lower than 18.5 is considered underweight.
  • BMI between 25.0 and 29.9 equates with overweight
  • BMI of 30.0 and above with obesity.

Note
 BMI changes depending on the individual’s sex and age.
