Skincare: Maintaining soft palms

Causes of hard palms
The skin acts as a barrier for the body against foreign infection. It also regulate the amount of water lost from the body.

The Palms is still part of the skin but What makes the palms different from other part of the skin?
The palm and sole part of the feet is covered by a thick skin which means your palms and feet are composed of five layers (4mm inches) of epidermal cover unlike other skin areas that is made up of four layers. 
The Surface layer of its epidermis (stratum corneum) is made of sheath of death cells that are constantly replaced by new ones, whose rate of turnover depends on mechanical effects on the skin and the individual’s nutritional level.

What causes Hard Palms and feet?

Hard palms can be caused by exposure to sunlight, handling corrosive substances that irritates the skin, working without gloves, use of detergents and chemicals etc
So as care is given to other part of the body like faces, the palms acting as the first part of contact during exchange of greetings (hand shaking) should be cared for and a soft  texture should be maintained for beauty and attraction.
 Apart from eating balanced diet, drinking enough water and consumption of essential fatty acids. 

Rough skin and palms can be cared for or improved upon using this home-made tip

  • Sugar
  • Oil eg. Castor oil, olive oil etc
  • A small Container
  • Warm water of not more than 50 degrees Celsius
  • Towel and soft bathing soap

  • Get your available oil and pour it into a small container say a 25cm container
  • Add the sugar till the oil becomes saturated with the sugar
  • On another container Pour the warm water into the container and soak your palms in it for 5 minutes
  • Dry your hands with the towel
  • Get a quantity of this (shrub) mixture of oil and sugar into your palms
  • Rub it with your two palms for some minutes till you start feeling a soft textured palms.
  • Wash your hands with a soft bathing soap.
  • Repeat this procedure up to twice a week  for a better outcome.

 How can I maintain soft Palms?

    Protecting the hands
  • Avoid direct contact with corrosive chemicals and detergents
  • Avoid exposing your Palms to high temperature
  • Drink enough water
  • Use gloves as a protective while handling objects
  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Rub cream on palms and feet before going to bed every night.
  • Above all eat a balanced diet to keep the skin fresh and smooth
